stilettos and strawberries

i am a heels-wearing girl. 

at 5'4", i need all the height help i can get!

my preferred heel is a wedge 

(no sinking into grass, no teetering on cobblestones or poorly-paved parking lots!)

don't get me wrong, i LOVE my flip-flops, but when the sweet mFw at http://prissyandpreppyflamingo.blogspot.com/ bestowed the stiletto award to me, i was so honored. not just because i can't live without my heels, but because of what it means (according to the award)

as for strawberries... i love them, too!

today is the day of our town's annual strawberry festival, and i'm taking muffy!

the downtown will be themed out with the delicious red berry...for sale in pints 

and my highlight: the shortcake!

it reminds me of one of my favorite childhood toys

who was recently redesigned for muffy's generation

still sweet as ever!

seven little tidbits

she just completed her freshman year of college (yay!!) 

and is headed home for summer vacation now. 

wish i could turn back the clock and join her!

the rules are simple... just share things about yourself!

1.  i love being a girly girl (big surprise!)

from shopping in the city, to simply doing my hair and makeup everyday,

 I really enjoy getting pretty...and take pride in it.

2.  i'm a history buff and political activist 

i can easily be glued the the history channel for hours and it was always one of my best subjects in school.

i was the voice of democracy my senior year of high school

 and was an officer on the student senate in college.

i've been a political reporter.

and recently volunteered during the MA senate elections

3. i am not a good cook

i really wish i was. there are a few things i can cook pretty well,

 but overall, i would not rate my dinners very high. 
in fact, mr prep cooks most of our meals!

4. i knew i wanted to be a writer in the third grade

i was a writer for the student newspaper from the fourth grade through my senior year of college and have written for newspapers, magazines and have written three children's books (not published, yet!)

5. i love music

any type. 

from rap & hip-hop to celine dion to honky-tonk country. 

i sing all the time, not just in the car! 

i think it annoys muffy and my co-workers, but it really is a mood-enhancer.

this is a crazy fact: but i am still obsessed with george michael and anything by wham! in fact, i just saw him in concert last year!

6.  i was diagnosed with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes when i was 15

i take two shots a day, but took six a day when i was pregnant with muffy!

not easy, not fun, but under control, i live a very heathly, normal life.

and still get to have my cake and eat it too!

7.  i am a nailbiter

(not something i'm proud of)

i've only stopped biting my nails twice in my life!

once when i was anticipating my engagement ring and when i was at home and relaxed on maternity leave. i have tired acrylic nails more times than i can count, too. bad, bad habit that i cannot seem to break!

since this is a happy recognition of my new favorite hobby,
i'm to list 10 things (in no particular order) that make me happy,
and tag 10 happy bloggers... here goes!

1) my muffy...this girl is my pride and joy.
she makes me laugh every day and tries my patience, too.
it's true what they say,
being a mama is the toughest and most rewarding job in the world!

2) christmas in tennessee with family
from my family of four + muffy and mr. prep to the whole gang for a holiday hootenanny, there's nothing like spending christmas in dixie, together.

3) summer camp. yea, i know i'm too old to go,
but i love the memories and friends i made.
my favorite camp is camp sumatunga in alabama.



4) going OUT to dinner.
i enjoy cooking, when i have time, but i have to admit, i'm not very good at it.
i just love to be waited on, have someone else set up, cook and clean up!

5) the theater. for plays, musicals and movies. i love the drama of it all!
this is the theater in alabama where i first took the stage!
appropriately named, don't you think?

6) southern traditions. from sitting on the front porch in my big white rocking chair to drinking sweet tea, eating catfish, saying hey ya'll to friends...
my home may be in the north but my heart and soul are in the south!

7) church. a place to reconnect, recharge and rejoice!
this is actually the church mr. prep and i got married at in vermont.
8) all things preppy and monogrammed. pink, green, bright and happy!

9) family heirlooms. the tradition and history is something worth celebrating.

this lead crystal bowl and platter is my great-great-great grandmother's
from chicago and is the centerpiece of my dining room table today.

10) shopping! anytime, anywhere...
from big city boutiques to cute country crafts...i was born to do this!
