giddy up

i'm so excited to be hosting my first kentucky derby party!

the invitations came last night, and i'm feverishly planning a menu and activities -- it's a family party, so i'm planning on doing stick horse races
and design-your-own hat stations for the little ones.

but i'm counting on you more experienced derby party planners
to help me finalize my details!

suggestions welcome!

  1. Sounds like a fabulous party! I LOVE the Kentucky Derby! When I'm home we always go to our Country Club for their festivities but I'm missing it this year. We have my sororities formal that same night, and I explained it was Derby Day and people didn't know what I was talking about.

I love your ideas for the party and can't wait to see pictures after the big event!

  7. I have hosted a few derby parties in my time! I absolutely love it! I usually have a prize for best hat (gets the adults into the whole hat wearing thing). I also set it up so adults can bet money on the race by printing a spreadsheet of the horses and letting guests choose up to three. Then put a jar out for the cash. Winner takes all! Have a great time, can't wait to read about it!
